HOW I STARTED

My grandma introduced me to ceramics many years ago, when I was just a young girl. We would attend a weekly class at the local ceramics studio, which was basically an 80’s version of paint your own pottery. I learned how to prepare greenware for firing and many different painting techniques. Most Saturdays were spent painting our fired pieces. These are some of my most cherished memories of my grandma, and I treasure that time we spent together.

My ceramics journey faded when I became busy with careers and being a mom to my two amazing girls. When my grandmother passed, I inherited all of her ceramics supplies and equipment but life was still too busy.

Two years ago I decided to take pottery class as I have always wanted to learn the pottery wheel. One class and I was hooked! The rest, as they say, is history.

THE STORY BEHIND MY NAME

The name Blue Violet Pottery was inspired by my grandma’s love for African Violets. She had a special table for them at a window in her living room. Making violet pots was her speciality and she would give them as gifts for birthdays and holidays. After my grandma passed, I was lucky enough to inherit one of her special violet pots. It sits on my bedside table and I think of her every time I see it. I have finally managed to create a modern-day version, after a lot of trial and error, that I know would meet her approval. I am very proud of this piece as it is very close to my heart and I am excited to share it with you!

My grandma gave me my creativity and my love for the arts and I am so grateful for these precious gifts. Her memory inspires all the pieces that I make and my hope for those that purchase one of my pieces is that it may bring a little happiness to your day!
